Day 122:
“Battery 3 making beats in bed.”
I’ve learned a lot about cutting up slices from drum loops. I really liked the approach of slicing up samples in Ableton Live when you pull up an audio track and automatically slice an audio loop to a midi track automatically by note values or warp marker positions. I realized as great as that is, sometimes it’s better to do it manually. I found out one of the best ways of doing this is through this youtube video and ever since, I’ve been amazed with using Battery 3 to slice samples and making my drum kits. This was a test assignment given to me by Beta Control (one of my brothers from another mother). He gave me an assignment to try different work flows in music making and he gave me a few simple rules.
1. Grab a drum loop you’re emotionally attached to from a song you love.
2. Pull up a synthesizer and make three patches. (2 Leads and a bass)
3. Then compose around that rhythmic foundation.
So far I only made a drum kit and now I will move on to the patches on the software synthesizer. There’s nothing like making beats on my laptop while laying next to the love of my life while she’s reading.
