I'm learning how to stick and knife fight!!
Thanks to my new Guro, Mr. Tencious…I am now learning the basics of Eskrima, which refers to a class of Filipino Martial Arts that emphasize stick and sword fighting.
Last night I learned the first 12 defenses and 12 attacks using a rattan stick.

Rattan Sticks for Eskrima, a Filipino Martial Art.
And let me just say that when the sticks bang together in battle…THEY SMELL LIKE FIRE.
(HOW DOPE IS THAT?!?!)
It is a very up-close-and-personal form of combat and it was hard for me to do at first because as a boxer, I tend to rely of my stance and maintain distance from my opponent. I have been trained to fight from an outer range to my opponent. Eskrima is challenging because it is teaching me to fight inside and very close to my opponent, which takes me out of my comfort zone.
I am so excited about this that I had to blog on it. It’s that amazing.
I am on my way to being a NINJA for sure.
